3 Things That Innovation Have Made Very Cheap

Written by anders@thinque.com.au | February 16, 2016

The world is changing more rapidly than most of us realize. It's only when we look back and reflect upon the past that we realize that a lot of things have changed. On a day to day, or weekly or even monthly basis we don't notice how fast things are shifting. In this blog post I will share 3 things that innovation have made very cheap (and more advanced) during the last 25-35 years.

1. The price of PCs

The PC is a product that is getting cheaper every year. In January 2015 they were 9 percent cheaper than the year before, and personal computers have gotten 99,9% cheaper during the last 35 years according to Bloomberg Business.

2. The price of software

The price of software have also experienced a exponential decline since 1980. This is not unexpected since some of today's most popular software is free. If you want to learn more about how this development is impacting the digital world and society at large I recommend that you read the book The Zero Marginal Cost Society: The Internet of Things, the Collaborative Commons, and the Eclipse of Capitalism by Jeremy Rifkin.

3. The price of cell service

Do you think you have high cell phone bills? In January 1990 cell phone service was twice as expensive compared to today. This dramatic drop in the price of cell phones and cell service have made the mobile phone accessible to people all over the world.

In Kerala in India the net yields amongst fishermen who had adopted mobile technology went up 8 percent, and the price for the consumer went down 4 percent as a result of mobile adoption and of course for the consumer as a result of less wastage.
