Ideas Are Like Hippies ... and why I am off to TEDGlobal

Written by anders@thinque.com.au | July 7, 2011

Today I am sitting in little Sydney in antipodean Australia, having started my day on Bondi Beach with a wintery swim in a my new triathlon wet-suit. It's a far, but very chilled, cry from hanging out with thousands of ideas generated by some of the world's thought leaders, innovators, social entrepreneurs, artists, and change agents

I believe that ideas are a bit like hippies. In fact, as some of you may have heard on TED, interesting things happen when ideas have sex. Ideas like to flirt with one another, they want to cross-fertilise to see great idea offspring, and they are actively engineered to steer away from generating idea cousin offspring. They, just like hippies, prefer free love.

So maybe I have some kind of cognitive or intellectual fetish, but I am off to the intellectual equivalent of Woodstock. On this trip, you will find me blogging and tweating from Edinburgh straight from the inner sanctum of TEDGlobal, and you will find interviews with interesting global thought leaders on both www.youtube.com/andersofthinque and here on the Thinque Tank blog.

And as I am currently pondering which idea I think is worth spreading, I am left wondering what kind of ideas might be quietly idea-fornicating to produce a new breakthrough, a novel insight, of creating an entirely new paradigm - an upgrade in thinking.

What do you think?
