Moleskine's Latest Innovation Seamlessly Digitizes Your Notes

Written by anders@thinque.com.au | April 13, 2016

This incredible innovation from Moleskine seamlessly weaves together both the analogue and the digital worlds. The Smart Writing Set enables you to digitize all of your hand-written notes while you are writing them.

Moleskine has together with Neo Smartpen developed a connected pen that in near real-time digitizes your hand-written notes and makes them easy to share digitally with colleagues and friends. So how does it work? The pen has a built-in camera that tracks the movements of the pen and it connects with your iphone, ipad or android device.

Previously Moleskine has collaborated with Evernote and Adobe, however this collaboration / solution is probably the most seamless one so far considering that you don't need to take a photo of your notes in order to digitize them.

Even though I'm very reliant on my MacBook Air and iPhone I couldn't travel anywhere or nonetheless go to a business meeting without my physical notebook. It might sometimes be easier and go quicker to take notes with my laptop, but I still prefer to take notes by hand.  Research on this subject reveals that handwriting is better than taking notes with your laptop because it slows the person down which improves his or hers ability to learn and absorbe more information.

And when you are writing by hand you are not able to write down every word the speaker says, so in order to understand you need to summarize concepts and process the information in a way that demands the you to interact with the content more actively. From this we can conclude that there is still a bright future for Moleskine and other companies that manufacture physical notebooks.
