If you're average, stop.
AI is about to disrupt the very idea of being "average." It used to be acceptable to be an average designer, accountant, or lawyer—you'd still have a job. But AI is taking the "robot" out of the human equation, leaving no room for mediocrity.
The harsh reality is that artificial intelligence excels at automating routine, predictable tasks—exactly the kind of work that defines "average" performance. When AI can generate decent marketing copy, process standard legal documents, or create basic designs in seconds, being "good enough" is no longer good enough.
I don't believe robots will replace humans. I do believe that humans who don't adopt AI will be replaced by those who do. The professionals thriving in this new landscape aren't those fighting the technology—they're the ones learning to dance with it. They're using AI as a force multiplier, amplifying their creativity, analysis, and strategic thinking.
The window for comfortable mediocrity is closing fast. Average performers are finding themselves squeezed from both sides: AI handling the routine work from below, while AI-augmented humans operate at superhuman levels from above. There's simply no sustainable middle ground.
So if you'd class yourself as ok at your job... it's time to pivot—find a new profession, a new sport, a new hobby, or a new business where you can strive for excellence. This isn't about perfection; it's about passion, curiosity, and the relentless pursuit of growth. It's about developing the uniquely human skills that AI can't replicate: emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, and the ability to connect disparate ideas in novel ways.
The question isn't whether AI will change your industry—it's whether you'll change with it. How are you embracing new technologies to rise above average?
