Healthcare Futurist: the mobilisation of healthcare

Around the world, patients and consumers are taking their healthcare matters into their own hands. Literally.

Whether it's checking your blood sugar via Sanofi's iPhone plug-in, checking your bloodpressure on Withing's blood pressure monitor, or sending your social network weight updates on Withing's wifi-enabled scales, patients are increasingly monitoring and managing their health more proactively.

Whether as a matter of prevention - think of Nike+ Fuelband - or as serious information gathering exercise on PatientsLikeMe, consumers are used to having their digital selves displayed in real-time, and make better health decisions as a result. Healthcare and Pharmaceutical companies need to keep up with this trend, or end up losing out to nimble competitors who are entering this digital disruption.

I mean think of Nike - when did a shoe company become fit to advise us on our health, and our exerice regime? Well, as soon as they combined the idea of runners with music, and Apple's iPhone technology.

Check out my presentation on the future of healthcare - a future increasingly being shaped by the mobilisation of healthcare - driven by consumers and new entrants.
