Queenstown, Thought Leadership, and Personal Responsibility

30 Apr 2007

Hi there guys,

I hope you are all doing well. I am sitting here in my hotel room in Queenstown, New Zealand, having just enjoyed a lovely walk along the beach. This is such a beautiful place and for me it is quite special as the environment reminds me a lot of Sweden, especially now during the autumn.

As I was going for my morning walk, taking in the amazing and shifting colours of autumn Queenstown, and feeling the fresh air fan my Rudolfed-nose, I was listening to the inspirational and transformational ted talks. For those of you who have have not yet visited www.ted.com - please you are missing out, take charge and download the presentations and movies from world leaders and innovators. The messages are political, provocative and highly varied and whether they are in the context of design, thought leadership, environment, economics or climate change, there is bound to be something of great interest to you - so visit it now!

I am here on a conference for Thought Leaders run by Matt Church, one of Australia's premier keynote speakers and an authority on personal leadership. As a coach, trainer and speaker, I find it of the utmost importance to keep up-to-date and to be coached by the best in the business and I have found Matt's program profound. Definitely worthwhile for anyone who is keen to utilise their talents and spread their message to the world!

I read an awesome article in the Sydney Morning Herald on the latest developments in technology recently and it discussed technology and Gen Y in the context of communications and personal connections. For a good and provocative read, please click here.

One of the insights I have reached here at the conference is that one of my missions in life is to help facilicate personal responsibility in people. Because how we possibly positively impact the world unless we first take control and responsibility of our own lives and the way we live? I knew there was a hidden message in my highly theoretical and largely impractical International Law Thesis provocatively and ambitiously called 'Judicial Review: The Heroic Quest for Security Council Accountability'. Accountability and responsibility go hand in hand and it is not until we take responsibility for our actions and results that I believe that we can truly influence the world to become an even better place. Now this is something I have had good and bad experiences with in my life, and it is a continuous challenge - I do not want to preach from a piedestal, but more on this next time. For now, know that personal responsibility changes everything. It becomes a new prism of opportunity to view life through.

With funk
