Second Life, Get a First Life, and Unique Perspectives

03 Feb 2007

Hello friends,

New Years' Resolutions - aren't they a great thing? I am on track with mine, how are you going with yours? In the January-February edition of our newsletter, the Thinque-zine, there is an article on how to get your new years' resolutions, after a brief description of the errors most people make in pursuing their goals for the new year. So keep your eyes open for the this Thinque-zine in your inbox.

My thoughts on Second Life keep evolving. After last week's blog and uncertainty about the merits of the idea from a personal development perspective (pls see blog post below), I have now realised that if used wisely the game can actually bolster our dreams and allow us to fantasise about the kind of person we want to be. The big 'as long as' is the following condition - as long as we take the learnings from the game and decide to become who we ultimately want to be in our real lives. Because at the end of the day that is where true fulfilment comes from. So, in other words, GET A FIRST LIFE! Then, if you must, for one reason or another, have a go at SL, gather inspiration, notice the cool technology, the marketing potential, the French Nationalist Front fascists, the Swedish Embassy and the real universities who are building education outposts on islands. It is worth a journey.

In the last week, I have also come to the conclusion that it is all about unique perspectices. I thrive on other people's perspectives, thier ideas, opinions, dreams and concerns, and I am sucker for information. I try to put as much of the good information into my brain as possible (for those of you that are familiar with the NLP Model of Communication - you know what I mean), make sense of it, and then to form my own unique perspectives around the information and connections I have made. I love this stuff - so much so that we have decided to develop a new Think Tank program for corporations - stay tuned. More on this later - suffice it to say that I believe unique perspectives is the true way forward for corporate Australia. Novel ways at looking at old problems - that is the backbone of NLP and it is the creative juice that propels us at Thinque forward.
